I remember growing up with my mother baking chocolate cakes in our little kitchen, while I would eagerly watch her and also try to dip my finger into that rich chocolate batter. I know it’s forbidden with the raw egg and all, but my oh my, it was heaven to my 7-year old taste buds! So I had that memory in mind as I was making this CHOCOLATE CAKE BATTER SMOOTHIE for breakfast right after my home yoga this morning.
This smoothie is so delicious you would think it’s a chocolate milkshake but with less calories! The key to having a rich and creamy smoothie is to freeze the bananas at least the night before. I usually have a stash in my freezer since I make smoothies almost everyday. You can also add a high-quality protein powder into this smoothie to make it even more filling. Go crazy with the other add-ons and toppings or even add some chia seeds in there. Here’s a TIP for you– Double the recipe and maybe pour half of the mix into popsicle moulds to make into chocolate frozen delights. That is, if you can resist the urge of gulping down all of it! YES, it’s that good!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
1 ripe banana, sliced and frozen
1 cup milk of choice (I used homemade almond milk)
1/2 cup oats
1 tbsp cacao powder or unsweetened cocoa
1 tbsp all-natural peanut butter
1-2 scoops high-quality chocolate protein powder (I use this brand)
some ice cubes
Mix all ingredients in a high-speed blender until smooth. Garnish with chocolate shavings and enjoy!
