5 Ways to Energize your Morning without Coffee

Happy 2022! I know it’s a tad late for a greeting but I just came back from a much-needed break from the digital world to reconnect with my family, and refocus for the new year. For the past few weeks, I’ve been focusing also in nourishing my body, mind and energy. Today I want to share with you my 5 ways to energize your morning without coffee.

Don’t get me wrong, I love coffee every now and then but ever since I’ve practised these simple ways, I find that I don’t need it as much caffeine especially in the morning. Not only do I feel less jumpy but I also have more stable energy to start the day.

1. DRINK UP

I first start my day with a tall glass of water, sometimes with a squeeze of fresh lemon. Instead of coffee, I like to drink a cup of green tea which doesn’t contain as much caffeine but still can keep you alert and stimulate brain function. It has a compound called ‘L-theanine‘ which when combined with a bit of caffeine gives you a much milder and different kind of stable energy than coffee.

2. STEP OUT

While enjoying my tea, I would step out of the backyard and catch up some sunlight. Summer weather in Melbourne gets pretty unpredictable but mornings are generally pleasant. Sunlight will naturally wake you up and you also get your daily dose of vitamin D.

3. GET MOVING

Even if it’s just 5 mins, morning movement can stretch your tight muscles and release endorphins a.k.a happy hormones! Mix up your range of activities so you don’t get bored especially if you’re working out from home. I love yoga and pilates for a more fluid, relaxed movement, or an HIIT strength training plus cardio skipping whenever I’m feeling more up for it. Listen to your body!

4. PLAY SOME MUSIC

Turn on your speakers for some upbeat music or I also love to fill the room with some acoustics especially when the house is still quiet and my boys haven’t woken up yet.

5. PACK IN THE PROTEINS, FAT & FIBER

Eat breakfast that’s full of proteins, healthy fats and lots of fiber. It will fill you up and give you loads of energy. My top picks – high protein smoothie, avo & eggs on toast, or bowl of my perfectly creamy oats.

Just like with any habit, start simple and pick 1-2 of these ways that you want to incorporate into your morning routine. Do it not because you have to but because it makes you feel good from the inside-out. Go gentle on yourself, and remember to nourish your body, mind, and energy every single day.
