I remember growing up with my mother baking chocolate cakes in our little kitchen, while I would eagerly watch her and also try to dip my finger into that rich chocolate batter. Â I know it’s forbidden with the raw egg and all, but my oh my, it was heaven to my 7-year old taste buds! Â So I had that memory in mind as I was making this CHOCOLATE CAKE BATTER SMOOTHIE for breakfast right after my home yoga this morning.
This smoothie is so delicious you would think it’s a chocolate milkshake but with less calories! Â The key to having a rich and creamy smoothie is to freeze the bananas at least the night before. Â I usually have a stash in my freezer since I make smoothies almost everyday. Â You can also add a high-quality protein powder into this smoothie to make it even more filling. Â Go crazy with the other add-ons and toppings or even add some chia seeds in there. Â Here’s a TIP for you– Double the recipe and maybe pour half of the mix into popsicle moulds to make into chocolate frozen delights. Â That is, if you can resist the urge of gulping down all of it! Â YES, it’s that good!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
1 ripe banana, sliced and frozen
1 cup milk of choice (I used homemade almond milk)
1/2 cup oats
1 tbsp cacao powder or unsweetened cocoa
1 tbsp all-natural peanut butter
1-2 scoops high-quality chocolate protein powder (I use this brand)
some ice cubes
METHOD
Mix all ingredients in a high-speed blender until smooth. Â Garnish with chocolate shavings and enjoy!
